Indian Railways · Cab communication intelligence

Hear what every cab journey is telling you.

Railcomm turns recorded loco-cab audio into searchable transcripts, rule-based safety checks and division-wide insight, so supervisors spend their time on the conversations that matter.

Why it is needed

The cab is where safety is spoken, and almost none of it is ever heard again.

Signal call-outs, acknowledgements and cautions are the crew's shared safety net. They are also recorded, but a recording nobody can search is evidence nobody can use.

More audio than anyone can hear

Every trip leaves hours of cab conversation behind. Across divisions it grows faster than any supervisor can listen to it.

Spot-checks miss the moment

When review means picking a few files at random, the call-out that was never acknowledged is found only if someone happened to press play on it.

No common yardstick

What counts as a good cab conversation differs from one reviewer to the next, so nobody can say whether a section, a shift or a division is improving.

What we provide

From a recording to a decision in four steps.

Railcomm is one workspace that takes cab audio from upload to review, with the original recording always one click away.

  1. 01

    Record and upload

Divisions upload cab recordings (WAV, MP3, M4A, FLAC, AAC, OGG) with the trip details. Train, loco, pilot and section are read straight from the file name.

  2. 02

    Hear it as text

Each recording is shown with a time-aligned transcript. Click any line and the audio jumps to that second.

  3. 03

    Check it against the rules

Every line is sorted into one of five classes, and the journey is checked for call-outs, acknowledgements, distraction, phone use, silences and red flags.

  4. 04

    Review and act

The dashboard points to the journeys that deserve a listen, the trends worth a conversation, and the evidence needed to follow up.

Inside a journey review

Every line is sorted, so the review starts where the risk is.

Instead of an all-or-nothing “relevant / irrelevant” split, each line lands in one of five classes. Noisy audio is set aside rather than counted against the crew.

  • Operational · Signals, speeds, brake tests, authority, loco health

  • Off-duty · Personal, social and phone talk

  • Red flag · Bypassed safety devices, admitted fatigue or overspeed

  • Unclassified · Speech that matches no rule either way

  • Not assessable · Too noisy or too short to judge fairly

Built for the modern fleet

From conventional locos to Vande Bharat, every cab has a conversation worth hearing.

The value it brings

One system, and a clear gain for everyone who touches a journey.

Better safety communication is not about catching people out. It is about making good practice visible, and risk easy to see early.

Loco pilots and assistants

Fair, specific feedback

  • Feedback tied to the exact line and the exact second, not a general impression
  • Good practice such as clear call-outs and confirmations is visible too
  • Noisy or unclear audio is marked as not assessable instead of being held against anyone

Crew supervisors and CLIs

Listen where it matters

  • A short list of journeys to review, instead of a pile of files
  • Click a transcript line and hear that exact moment
  • Coach with evidence the crew can hear for themselves

Division and zonal officers

A clear view of the trend

  • Communication discipline over time, by section, hour of day and pilot
  • Ranges and sample sizes shown, so small numbers are not over-read
  • One consistent yardstick for every division

Safety and vigilance

Evidence that stands up

  • Every finding names the rule it comes from
  • A printable evidence pack with a tamper-evident fingerprint and a sign-off block
  • A human reviewer always makes the call

Without it

  • Recordings sit in storage until something goes wrong
  • Review depends on who listened and what they happened to hear
  • Trends are anecdotes

With Railcomm

  • Every uploaded recording is searchable and reviewed against the same rules
  • Reviewers start from a ranked list and jump to the exact moment
  • Trends by section, hour and pilot, with sample sizes shown

Built to be trusted

Fair to the crew. Solid enough for the record.

Recordings are used for coaching and, where needed, for disciplinary follow-up. So the platform shows its reasoning, protects access and never decides on its own.

Rule basis on every finding

Checks are written from Indian Railways cab-conduct rules, and each result shows the rule it rests on.

Tamper-evident evidence pack

A printable pack records the rating, the evidence lines, the ruleset version and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the transcript.

Access that follows your role

Sign-in is required. Super Admins, Admins and Division Users each see only what their role and division allow.

Indicators, not verdicts

The system flags and explains. People review, decide and sign off. Nothing is concluded automatically.

What to keep in mind

We would rather you know the limits than discover them.

  • Audio cannot show hand signals, posture or where someone is looking, so those need other evidence.
  • Keyword matches are prompts for review, not confirmed statements, and thresholds are being tuned with railway experts.
  • Figures describe the recordings that were uploaded and approved, not every journey run.
